Appointment Types
One Visit In-person
Longer appointment that may involve waiting for a preparer.
- You must bring:
- government issued photo id
- proof of social security number for all on your return
- a completed Intake Booklet
- all of your tax forms (our checklist)
- list of possible deductions & credits (our organizer)
- copy of last year’s return (not required, but helpful)
- A certified preparer will interview you and prepare your return
- A second certified preparer will review your return
- You will go home with a printed copy of your return which we will e-file
These appointments will last approximately 45-60+ minutes.
Note that all taxpayers on the return (taxpayer and spouse if any) must either be present for the appointment or come with a Power of Attorney. The IRS form 2848 is available here and a sample.
Two Visits - Interview Drop Off & /Pickup
Starts with a 30-minute interview appointment with pick up of your completed return 1 week later.
- You must bring:
- government issued photo id
- proof of social security number for all on your return
- a completed Intake Booklet
- all of your tax forms (our checklist)
- list of possible deductions & credits (our organizer)
- copy of last year’s return (not required, but helpful)
- A certified preparer will interview you and scan your forms
- You will go home with your forms
- An offsite certified preparer will prepare your return from the scan and may call you with questions
- An offsite second certified preparer will review your return, again from the scans, and call you to pick up your return
- You come back 1 week later to pick up your return
The interview appointment will last approximately 30 minutes, pickup will last 5-10 minutes.
Note that all taxpayers on the return (taxpayer and spouse, if any) must either be present for both the interview and the pickup appointments or come with a Power of Attorney. The IRS form 2848 is available here and a sample.
* The IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE) programs offer free basic tax return preparation to qualified individuals. The VITA program has operated for over 50 years. VITA sites offer free tax help to people who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns.
